Department & Head

The department has intake of 90 students. A competent and professional team of 15 full time faculty, mostly having Ph.D. and M.Tech. qualifications from reputed universities, is backing up the steady growth and development of this department. The dedicated faculty has created an active teaching-learning interface. The Internet facility has been provided to the offices of all faculty and technical supporting staff, as well as to all laboratories of the department. Other activities of the department includes Research, Consultancy, Counseling, Carreer Guidance and Co-Curricular activities. Field Trips and Educational Tours are compulsory part of the curriculum where they visit private and public sector undertakings to have a feel of the latest technology.

The deptt has 16 laboratories fully equiped with latest equipment and has 6 technical supporting staff to provide strong and active support in the smooth functioning of the different laboratories. The laboratories are equipped to carry out research in all areas related to Mechanical and Production & Industrial Engineering.

Department is being run under the able guidance of  Dr. T.S. Sidhu

Departmental Vision

To be identified as a preferred destination for professional studies responsive to industrial and societal needs of the country.

Departmental Mission

1.       Development of technically competent manpower with requisite analytical, theoretical and managerial skills and practical exposure for diverse careers in Mechanical Engineering.

2.       All round development of students, staff and faculty by providing conducive environment and infrastructure for learning, skill development and research.

3.       Imbibing versatility, adaptability and yearning for excellence amongst students, with highest ethical values as their inner strength.

Program Educational Objectives

1.       To enhance the knowledge of students in basic and applied sciences and to educate them in mechanical engineering principles required for analyzing and solving mechanical engineering problems enabling them to secure employment in Industry and academia.

2.       To train the students in technical, managerial, IT and soft skills along with human, social and professional ethics and values, through teaching of relevant courses, training programs and practical exposure.

3.       To provide platforms for participation, planning and organizing curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the department for overall development of students.

4.       To provide necessary support, guidance and favourable environment for carrying out projects portraying their learning, inculcating team spirit and motivating them for higher-studies/research.

5.       To develop the need for achievement through healthy competition, fair evaluation, recognition and feedback.

Programme Outcomes

Engineering graduates will be able to:

a.       Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

b.       Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

c.        Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

d.       Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

e.       Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

f.         The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

g.       Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

h.       Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

i.         Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

j.         Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

k.       Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one's own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

l.         Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
